Gloucestershire Constabulary

Gloucestershire Constabulary is one of the oldest rural police forces in Britain. The area we cover is about 1,000 square miles and is home to the Cotswolds, Royal Forest of Dean and Severn Vale, but also includes the urban centres of Cheltenham and Gloucester.

We serve a population of around 600,000 people, in a county which incorporates two royal households, two airports, a university, part of the M5 motorway and a number of large employers, including GCHQ. It also hosts several major events and has been a national pilot site for the badger cull which create peaks in demand for our resources.

Neighbourhood policing:
Day-to-day policing of the county is delivered through six areas: Cheltenham, Gloucester, Tewkesbury, Stroud, Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean.

Neighbourhood policing is very much at the heart of the Constabulary and within the six areas, we have teams covering 55 communities.

At the most local level, our neighbourhood policing teams have built strong relationships with the communities they work in. Made up of police officers, police community support officers (PCSOs), special constables and other support staff, they tackle crime and disorder and other issues which matter most to the public.

What else we do:
Community policing is only part of what we do. In September 2014, we were able to showcase the work of our officers and units from across the force at a special open day celebrating the Constabulary’s 175th anniversary; this included our dogs section, Tri-Force roads policing team, forensics unit, firearms officers and crime reduction department.

Gloucestershire Constabulary also works with other organisations (partners) such as local councils, support groups and charities, sharing expertise and making the best use of resources to help beat crime and make the county a safer place to live in.
